Eagle Lanes

Hello Northwoods bowlers, I would like to
introduce Jim "Doc" Grebner the current head
of the youth program at Eagle Lanes. Doc began
his bowling career at Canevin High School in
Pittsburgh, Pennslyvania. Doc attended the
University of Minnesota for his undergraduate
degree and would then attend Penn State for
med school. He would serve his residency in
Waukesha through the Medical College of
Wisconsin. He would then work as an ER doctor
for 36 years til he retired in 2014.
I began to take bowling seriously in 2011, and have bowled in four leagues since, currently in two. He served three and a half years as a board member on the Northwoods USBC. He officially took over as a league official of the Eagle Lanes Youth League in 2017 taking over from Northwoods USBC Hall of Famer Steve Janssen. After taking over Doc would then start the process of taking training courses in bowling through USBC. His first instructor level 1 training was obtained in 2019 on the online course provided by USBC. Two years later he would obtain his bronze level training in 2021 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he would spend two days learning material and ultimately taking a test to pass the course. Lastly he obtained his silver level training this summer in Colombus, Ohio spending three days learning new material and passing the required test.
After retiring in 2014 he was looking for a way to giver back to the community. He was told that he had a knack for teaching bowling. From that moment on he pursued this vigorously and bowling became a new passion for him especially in regards to coaching. Doc currently coaches adults and youth watching them develop new skills making it very gratifying. Even though time has eroded his physical skills, he remains committed to increasing his knowledge of the sport. Doc's ultimate goal is to have his students reach the skill level they desire. In his opinion, there is no better way to enjoy our life-long sport. Other than bowling Doc has other hobbies that include sporting clays, target shooting, model railroads , and gardening. Please take the time to thank Doc for all of the hard work he is putting into our youth to help make them better bowlers.
